Description
Ocracoke Seafood Company is a base of operations for over thirty watermen from Ocracoke and neighboring communities along the coast. Ocracoke has a maritime history dating back to the early 1700s. Fresh seafood is an island ethic. When word spread in the spring of 2006 that the last fish house was for sale, watermen joined forces and with support from the community, local non-profits, volunteers and dedicated state organizations the fish house was purchased, renovated and the Ocracoke Working Watermen's Association formed. Ocracoke Seafood is owned by the Ocracoke Foundation, a local 501(c)3 for the benefit of local watermen, who manage the business.
