Description
When we created Surf Hatteras over a decade ago, we were dreamy. We wanted to do something truly unique in the realm of surfing and in the realm of summer camps. It’s been a decade since then, and the overwhelming testimonies of campers and parents through the years continue to confirm that we were on to something. Of course we knew there were plenty of good surf camps. But it seemed to us that somewhere along the way the organic adventure of learning to surf among family and friends was traded for the now all-too-familiar scene of overcrowded day camps fighting for tiny waves in confined spaces. Sure, it was still fun. But we wanted more.
We didn’t just want to share waves. We wanted to share an EXPERIENCE: joy, adventure, beauty, community. So we got to thinking: What if we designed overnight sessions with smaller groups…in an epic location with consistent surf and a scenic landscape far removed from the urban crowds? How about home-cooked meals, creative activities, and the best staff we can possibly find–like not just surfers, but real, caring, funny, intelligent, qualified people (who also surf…and film and cook and lifeguard). What if we could welcome kids from all over the country and the world, and give them an experience they would never forget–but do it in a way that felt like we were simply inviting them into our home, and caring for them like they were our own family? That would be cool. So that’s what we did.
